i honestly wanted to love this book。 as it is, i just loved parts of it。 the rest of it left me feeling a little lukewarm。 i think, honestly, the ideas are all there, but there's just something missing that allowed me to fully connect with any of the characters。 even at the climactic moment, i just felt。。。 hollow (if you'll pardon the pun)。 i guess i wanted a bit more from the story than it delivered。 though i greatly appreciated the dedication to the atmosphere and god, that cover is just gorge i honestly wanted to love this book。 as it is, i just loved parts of it。 the rest of it left me feeling a little lukewarm。 i think, honestly, the ideas are all there, but there's just something missing that allowed me to fully connect with any of the characters。 even at the climactic moment, i just felt。。。 hollow (if you'll pardon the pun)。 i guess i wanted a bit more from the story than it delivered。 though i greatly appreciated the dedication to the atmosphere and god, that cover is just gorgeous!still, i wish i could articulate exactly what it was that kept me from connecting to the book and its characters, but i can't。 given some of the reviews i've seen, this might just be more of a "me" thing than anything, so go into it with an open mind (and an empty stomach if you're squeamish。 there are more than a few bits that turned my stomach lol)。 。。。more

Krystal Sutherland’s urban fantasy is a decadently dark and enchantingly creepy Modern fairy tail, the setting is hauntingly lush and undeniably sinister。“Dark, dangerous things happened around the Hollow sisters。”Ever since they disappeared as children (reappearing a month later with no memories of what happened to them),frighteningly weird occurrences have followed Grey,Vivi and Iris。When Grey goes missing again it’s up to to Iris and Vivi to unravel the clues Grey has left behind—but they’re n Krystal Sutherland’s urban fantasy is a decadently dark and enchantingly creepy Modern fairy tail, the setting is hauntingly lush and undeniably sinister。“Dark, dangerous things happened around the Hollow sisters。”Ever since they disappeared as children (reappearing a month later with no memories of what happened to them),frighteningly weird occurrences have followed Grey,Vivi and Iris。When Grey goes missing again it’s up to to Iris and Vivi to unravel the clues Grey has left behind—but they’re not the only ones looking for her。。。As their drawn ever closer into the supernatural Iris realises that what happened to them as children and whatever took them ten years ago—might just be calling them back。 I am awestruck by how much I loved this, Sutherland’s vivid descriptions were beautifully poetic, in an otherworldly, macabre Gimms’ Fairytale kind of way。 The characters were skilfully written, I liked all three Hollow sisters but Iris (as the main protagonist) was definitely my favourite。 I did really enjoy the haunting strangeness of both Grey and Vivi, and the aura of glamour and mystery surrounding them kept the suspense going。It’s quite a short read (but definitely packs a punch) my only complaint is that there’s not a sequel, which I desperately need。 ASAP。Overall, I’d definitely recommend to fans of Holly Black’s earlier series, Modern Faerie Tales (which is a grittier take on fantasy than some of her newer YA books) and dark fairytale-inspired fantasy。 。。。more

“Dark, dangerous things happened around the Hollow sisters。”Ten years ago on New Year’s Eve, seven-year-old Iris and her two older sisters Grey and Vivi disappeared on a quiet Edinburgh street。 Their parents Gabe and Cate only looked away for a second to share a kiss。 And when they turned, the girls were gone。 Iris and her sisters were found a month late, naked and huddled together, but unhurt。 But there’s something wrong with them。 The puzzling thing was they had no recollection of where they’d “Dark, dangerous things happened around the Hollow sisters。”Ten years ago on New Year’s Eve, seven-year-old Iris and her two older sisters Grey and Vivi disappeared on a quiet Edinburgh street。 Their parents Gabe and Cate only looked away for a second to share a kiss。 And when they turned, the girls were gone。 Iris and her sisters were found a month late, naked and huddled together, but unhurt。 But there’s something wrong with them。 The puzzling thing was they had no recollection of where they’d been or what happened to them。 They also looked different。 Their dark hair turned white, and their blue eyes turned black。 They also had this hook-shaped scar on their necks。There was something wrong with the Hollow sisters。 The mystery of their disappearance and eventual return fanned a media frenzy and piqued the curiosity of online sleuths worldwide。 Over the years, the Hollow sisters have gained fans, followers, and stalkers eager to get close to them and uncover their mystery。And despite their appearance, the Hollow sisters’ intoxicating and ethereal beauty could instantly put anyone under their spell, bending anyone they kiss or touch to their will。 Grey has made a name for herself in the fashion world, and Vivi is touring the world with her band。 Now, at seventeen years old, Iris Hollow just wants a quiet and normal teenager life with her mom, away from curious eyes and unwanted attention。 But when a man wearing a horned bull’s skull mask starts appearing everywhere, making his threatening presence felt, Iris has no choice but to reach out to her sisters for protection。 When calls and messages to Grey go unanswered and she doesn’t show up to their scheduled meet-up, Iris and Vivi, with the help of Grey’s boyfriend Tyler, go and investigate her disappearance。 The breadcrumbs that Grey left for them are baffling as they are terrifying。 Iris knows Grey is in danger, and it won’t be long before the man in the horned bull’s skull mask catches up to them and finishes them off。 I have to admit that I picked up this book because of the beautiful cover。 But thankfully, the story did not disappoint as well。 It’s gorgeously written, creating a lush and heady atmosphere that reads like a dream (or nightmare)。 This dark, creepy folklore fantasy is also very rich in metaphors。 And you can almost smell the forest, rot, damp, decay, and death, which are repeatedly mentioned in the book。 Sometimes I thought it was a little too much。This book is a standalone, although the way it ended makes it possible for a follow-up book。 Would I read it? Most probably。 。。。more

Dark, mystical, gothic, overblown writing, and beautiful language。 I enjoyed this one。 Some editing in the quest part would have been good, but it was very readable and certainly hooked me。 Recommended for mature readers。
Danielle Cox,
A deeply disturbing yet beautiful and riveting read that sucker punches you in the gut in the final few chapters。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 It's difficult to rate this book because I'm not sure how "good" it actually is, but I tore through it, addicted。 Very spoilery: I despised Grey and was sorely disappointed that she didn't die (really, truly die) or suffer any lasting consequences besides the death of poor Tyler (who was my favorite character and who, for better or for worse, may not stay dead after all)。 The epilogue left me wanting。 Overall though, very enjoyable。 It's difficult to rate this book because I'm not sure how "good" it actually is, but I tore through it, addicted。 Very spoilery: I despised Grey and was sorely disappointed that she didn't die (really, truly die) or suffer any lasting consequences besides the death of poor Tyler (who was my favorite character and who, for better or for worse, may not stay dead after all)。 The epilogue left me wanting。 Overall though, very enjoyable。 。。。more

My second Krystal Sutherland book and I am so so SO impressed。 I love the premise of this book so much。 It was so dark yet also so modern。 In a way, I’d put this in my dark academia books list to be honest。 This has dark secrets, death, supernatural, it has a bit of everything and I love that。We follow the Hollow sisters, Vivi and Iris as they set out to find their sister, Grey, who suddenly disappeared into the night and as they do so, they disco ”Fire destroys, but it also reveals。”

I love how everything progressively gets darker。 The writing too was so easily understood。 Vivi is definitely my favourite character, she is so so SOOOO funny。 Iris determination too, omg, inspiring, unmatched, I just love her。 HOWEVER, I’M SO MAD AT TYLER HAJDJSHDHSHD HE WAS。。。 A LITTLE ANNOYING。 BUT HIS ENDING WAS PROBABLY, ONE OF THE MOST UNEXPECTED AND SAD ENDINGS I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED (ok this is a lie since I’ve recently read a book with an unexpected character ending too so 🤡) BUT OMG I JUST, AAAA, I DID NOT SEE IT COMING 😩I honestly don’t know what else to say about this book apart from I love everything。 If you see this in the bookstores or online, GO PICK UP GRRRR ➖👅➖💕twitter ☆ instagram ☆ blog 。。。more

If you want a summary about this book that isn’t the summary written for it, the cover tells you what you need to know。 I used to read so many books surrounding fairy tales and the fae, and although this book doesn’t follow that same vein it did rekindle that love and wonder。 Totally recommend this book if you grew up absorbing copious amounts of fairy lore。
Ashley Dixon,
This book was creepy and deeply unsettling, and I was completely engrossed。 I probably won’t read it again。
Ana Nehan,
I was surprised by how believable most of the events seemed, considering what the book is about。 The narrative is very atmospheric, and should the film or TV adaptation ever come, I hope it falls on very talented hands because the visuals alone could be breathtaking。

House of Hollow。 I honestly looked at this book a few times while at Target, and I was unsure about it。 Then while I was standing there looking at books, I heard an add for a story that piqued my interest。 I looked up and it was about House of Hollow。 I watched it and decided I needed this book! It was not what I had expected, and it was definitely a storyline that I have not read before。 I found it unpredictable and entrancing。 I read it in 2 nights afterwork。 I needed to keep going and find out where the story was taking me。 This is a love story, but not your typical love story。 House of Hollow is a story about 3 sisters who mysteriously vanish for a month when they were little and were returned with no memory of what happened。 After a short time, they began to change, their eyes that were once blue turned black and their hair once brown turned white。 The doctors said it was PTSD, but was it? Their father is convinced these 3 girls are not even his daughters。 Are they not or is their father suffering from PTSD as well? These 3 sisters live for each other and would die for each other。 There is nothing that they would not do for one another。 10 years later, some bizarre things start to happen。 This is not the first time of course, but it also probably will not be the last。 the oldest sister, Grey, vanishes without a trace。 Iris the youngest, and Vivi, the middle sister will stop at nothing to find what happened Grey。 Is this related to what happened to them when they were younger? Will they find out what happened to them? Will they find Grey? I guess you will have to read to find out! And I suggest that you do, you will not regret it! 😊5 Stars!!!!! 。。。more

Terrible。 All it did was describe things and it was all the same everything was rotten, dead, and caused everyone to gag and throw up。 Literally throughout the book that happened。 Never touched on the other place to make it real nor what the girls were。 I do not reccomend at all。

This book was so good! The atmosphere of the writing, the story in itself and the mystery surrounded the sisters were so。。。 magical。 I loved it so much。 The weirdness of the events and the characters, the creepiness of the antagonist were actually making me check my hallway before bed。The characters were so flawed in a very realistic way。 No one is perfect and in YA, I sometimes feel like the author are making their characters 'perfect' with only like 1 little flaw but that is not how life works。 This book was so good! The atmosphere of the writing, the story in itself and the mystery surrounded the sisters were so。。。 magical。 I loved it so much。 The weirdness of the events and the characters, the creepiness of the antagonist were actually making me check my hallway before bed。The characters were so flawed in a very realistic way。 No one is perfect and in YA, I sometimes feel like the author are making their characters 'perfect' with only like 1 little flaw but that is not how life works。 People are flawed and are making decisions we do not agree with and they suffer the consequences for it。 But they are also loving and kind sometimes。 This book showed the characters as real human beings, not YA characters。 Have I mentionned the creepiness?
